BEAUFORT – Caroline Malphrus and Laiani McCullough combined four 13 kills, but Battery Creek volleyball fell to visiting Oceanside Collegiate in Region 8-3A play Tuesday night at the Palace.
Battery Creek started the match off strong with kills from McCullogh, and the two teams stayed close early, but the Sharks went on 4-0 run to take control of the set. Following a receiving error that gave OCA a six-point lead, the Dolphins took their first timeout. Oceanside extended its lead to 14 and took the set 25-12.
The Sharks took a 12-point advantage early in frame No. 2, and Oceanside’s lead grew to as large as 14 before the first timeout was taken by the Dolphins. OCA collected back-to-back kills to win the set 25-12.
Oceanside opened with a 6-0 run to open the third stanza, extending its lead to seven. Battery Creek used blocks from McCullough and Kinedee Barnwell to cut the lead to four, but multiple service errors pushed the Sharks lead to eight. Following a long rally that ended in an OCA point, the Dolphins took their first timeout of the frame. The Sharks finished off the set with a kill to end the match 25-12.
The Dolphins hit the road on Thursday for a Region 8-3A match against North Charleston.
